Voyage description

Salt air and inland quiet within the same afternoon. The smell of tide on the Wadden flats. The stillness of the IJsselmeer at anchor, with a town that has not changed its skyline in three hundred years visible across the water. This is what the Netherlands sounds and smells like from the right angle: from under the sail.

Weather & notes

May in the Netherlands can bring anything from warm spring sunshine to surprisingly cold weather. It is wise to pack layers for both mild and chilly conditions and hope you won't need the extra warmth.

Please remember to bring: sunscreen, sailing gloves for handling lines, toiletries for marina showers, fast-drying towels, slippers or shower shoes.

When at anchor, we can use the boat's shower facilities. In marinas, however, showering on board is generally not permitted, and marina facilities should be used instead.

Unless otherwise specified, boats do not come with bed linen. Even when linen has been ordered, bringing a warm sleeping bag is recommended. While the cabin is usually comfortably warm, extra bedding can make colder nights much more pleasant.

Food provisions for the trip will be discussed among the crew before departure. Cooking on board is typically shared voluntarily among crew members. If you are unfamiliar with sailing culture, think of it less as a hotel stay and more as a holiday among family and friends, where everyone contributes to the well-being of the group. Crew members generally help with cooking, cleaning, boat handling, and other daily tasks.

If you have any questions, simply reach out to experienced crew members or the skipper. We will be happy to help.
